[b]National Air and Space Society Lecture[/b] [URL=http://airandspace.si.edu/events/detail.cfm?id=11199]Vice Adm. Donald D. Engen Flight Jacket Night[/URL] National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC Friday, October 17, 2014; 8:00 p.m. National Air and Space Society Members Only James Arthur "Jim" Lovell, Jr. had extensive experience as a naval aviator and test pilot when he was selected for the space program in 1962. He went on to become the first person to fly in space four times. He was pilot on the Gemini VII flight, and commander of the Gemini XII mission in 1965. Captain Lovell served as Command Module Pilot and Navigator for the six-day journey on Apollo 8, the first mission to enter lunar orbit. His fourth and final flight was as commander on the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. After leaving NASA in 1973, Lovell served as President and CEO of the Bay-Houston Towing Company. Subsequently, he joined Fisk Telephone Systems as company president and retired from Centel Corporation as Executive Vice President. Today, Lovell is President of Lovell Communications. He attended the University of Wisconsin, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, the University of Southern California - Aviation Safety School, and Harvard Business School's Advance Management Program. His honors and awards include: the Harmon, Collier, and Goddard Aerospace Trophies; the Presidential Medal of Freedom; the French Legion of Honor; and the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. Capt. Lovell is an Emeritus Board member of the National Air and Space Museum. The lecture is for members of the Museum's National Air and Space Society and their guests.
